Rates for 2024
The following rates apply to patient travel from 1st of January 2024:

Lost earnings as a result of occupational injury | NOK 82 per hour (up to a maximum of NOK 429 per day) |
Amounts of less than NOK 100 will not normally be reimbursed. If you make several patient journeys within a period of six months and your total expenses for all journeys amount to at least NOK 100, you may still be entitled to reimbursement for these amounts collectively.

User fees
You will have to pay a user fee for your travel if you do not have an exemption card. You must pay a user fee for both the outward and return leg of your journey. In the case of a return journey, you will have to pay two user fees.

You will be exempt from paying user fees if you:
- are a child under the age of 16
- are a travel companion
- are travelling to an appointment for a medical investigation, treatment or assessment for an infectious disease which could endanger public health or safety
- are travelling to an appointment for a medical investigation or treatment for an occupational injury or war injury
- are travelling to day treatment in a compulsory mental healthcare institution
- are to be admitted to a compulsory mental healthcare institution
- are next of kin and are travelling to a psychiatric outpatient clinic for children and adolescents
- are to act as a donor (applies to both pre- and post-medical investigations, in addition to the transplant itself)
- are being transferred between two institutions within the same health trust
- are travelling to attend an abortion board meeting which will consider a decision concerning abortion after pregnancy week 12
Exemption card
If you pay more than the stipulated user fee ceiling during a particular year, you will be entitled to an exemption card.
User fees for travel in connection with free treatment options do not count towards the basis for an exemption card.
