What is a 6 months check-up?
When your child is 6 months old, you will be offered an individual consultation at the health centre. You will meet both a public health nurse and a doctor.

Topics at the 6 months check-up
The public health nurse will discuss topics such as:
- the interaction between you and the child
- the child's development (in Norwegian)
- breastfeeding, breast milk substitutes and other food
- the child’s physical activity (in Norwegian) and movement development
- the child's sleep (in Norwegian) and daily routines
- safety for newborns and infants (in Norwegian)
- dental health (in Norwegian)
- use of mobile phones and screens, including the use of social media
- parents' health and parenthood (in Norwegian)
Examinations
The child's head circumference, weight and length will be measured.
The child's general development will be examined. This includes the examination of the child's body, hearing, eyesight, language, contact and movement.
In addition, the doctor will examine the child's health and development. This includes examination of the skin, mouth, head, vaginal opening, penis/testicles, skeleton/movements, stomach, heart and lungs.
The child is observed and examined without clothing.
Preparations
The health centre is there for you and your child. If you have any questions or anything you want to raise, you can bring this up in the consultation. You may want to make notes in advance.
You have the right to an interpreter should you need one.
Both parents are encouraged to participate.
