Patient records

This page displays selected information from your patient records (Pasientjournal) and a list of hospital employees who have accessed it. Keep in mind that it can take some time before documents are displayed here.

About the service

The ability to access your patient records provides you with an easy overview of your own health data. You cannot add any information, but you can view everything in your record.

Your patient records will only be accessible when you are logged into the portal. As long as you are not logged in, your electronic record will not exist on the internet.

More about this service

  • This service requires consent for Basic+ access or higher.

  • In order to use this service on behalf of others for whom you do not have parental responsibility, the individual in question needs to give you power of attorney for service area number 2: Access to patient records.

  • Children under 12 years of age

    You can use the service on behalf of children under 12 years of age for whom you have parental responsibility, but only if at least one of the parents are registered in the Norwegian National Population Register with the same address as the child:

    • If one or more of the parents are registered at the same address as the child, both parents will be able to act on behalf of the child.
    • If neither parent is registered at the same address as the child, neither will be able to act on behalf of the child.

    Children and adolescents aged 12 to 16 years

    There is currently no solution in place to grant access to the patient records at Helsenorge for children and adolescents between 12 and 16 years of age. To access the patient records of children and adolescents in this age-group for whom you have parental responsibility or guardianship, you must submit an application form to the relevant hospital (in Norwegian) to request a copy of their medical record. 

    From 16 years of age

    When a child for whom you have parental responsibility or guardianship turns 16 years of age, you will no longer have access to their medical records. In order to access their patient records (Pasientjournal), the young person can log in to Helsenorge or give you power of attorney.

  • Unlisted address is often referred to as «confidential address» or «blocked address».

    This service is available to people with an unlisted address.

    If this service contains information from another service that is not accessible to you because of the confidential address, you will also not be able to see this information here.

    If you live at a confidential address, you will not be able to represent others at Helsenorge, nor will others be able to act on your behalf.

  • The patient records service at Helsenorge contains data from your original hospital case record, which can be accessed online through the Helsenorge website or app. Here you can also access another service: your summary care record (Kjernejournal).

    Your summary care record contains key information about you and makes it available to both yourself and healthcare professionals everywhere in Norway. It does not replace your GP’s medical records or hospital records, but serves as a supplement.
